Well this is the final blog I'll be doing. Time to study up for the exam. I think I'll be going to the learning center tonight for help on my homework 5. I feel I have learned a lot in this class and it has really brought me more interested in the computer science field. This is how I feel that classes should be. They should make you want to be studying what you are. I feel the logic of the problems is like a big puzzle for me and I like that. All the lectures were great for learning things. I enjoyed how he drew pictures to help imagine what was going on. That helps me a lot to figure out what I'm doing. Well goodbye CS1121.

Well I didn't do so great on my lab quiz. Nothing to bad that I would want to complain about. I just ran out of time. I think the main thing is that I know how to do the problems not how fast I can do them. It takes me more time to do some of the problems. I just now need to do Homework 5 and do well on it. Overall the quiz wasn't terrible I just didn't picture what I had to do on one them right for a while so it slowed me down. Overall this is been a fun class and am excited for my next computer science class.

Final lab quiz tomorrow. I hope all goes well. Homework 5 is getting there. I have it doing some correct things I'm just going to have to do one partial credit at a time and hope to get it working. I would really love it if I got it to work. I would feel very accomplished. I'm glad we got the GUI's because now I could make a calculator if I wanted. I think that would be fun still. I hope the final exam isn't to hard. I'm going to have to look back at all the stuff I have forgotten since the beginning.

The lab yesterday was very much a help in thinking about how to do the last homework problem. I was pretty lost about how to tell what button is pushed. Also it helped just for the sake of refreshing how to make and use the GUIs. I'd like to start my homework soon here because I have a feeling it is going to take a while to get through. I'm going to try to start small and easy and get to the bigger more complicated stuff later. I really need to look over stuff for the final as well. I have forgot some things that we haven't done in a while.
Tuesday, April 10, 2012
I should probably start my last homework soon. I have already gotten my codelab and reading for next thursday done so I should be in good shape time wise to be able to get working on my program. I think I may have an idea on how to do it but I am hoping it will be explained a bit more in class today. Only one more regular lab left. I enjoyed labs this semester. They were very good practice for homeworks and things like that. I hope to do as well as I did on the first two lab quizzes on the next lab quiz. I missed one lab so hopefully it wasn't terribly difficult.

Lots of new terms for tomorrow. Hopefully I will be able to remember some. Two weeks of class left. It is sad cause there is only four lectures left and this is my favorite class I have. I am happy to be done though. The last program looks like it is going to be a bit tough. I hope I can get it to work. Hopefully I can get something going and just go with it. That is kind of how most of my programs have went. Just taking little bits at a time and trying a bunch of things until it works. I hope all goes well for the final few weeks.

Well lab today was good. Got some much needed help from our TA on one of our problems we got stuck on. It was good to work with strings because I have my program working except for the to string method. I'm close to getting it but I just don't have it quit right yet. I'll probably try some more tonight. At least it is only 5 points and not 13. I just have to think about how I can get a string to mess around with and to make a new string from. I think then I'll be able to finish it.Hope everyone else's programs are working well. Only a few more weeks until summer! Thinking in objects Thursday!
Tuesday, April 3, 2012
The homework is giving me more problems that I had hoped for. I think tomorrow I'm going to try going down to the lab and working with the demo so I can see what I am supposed to be getting. That can help sometimes. It is easier to get an answer if you know what the answer is. I also was very happy we did GUIs today. I like that we don't just have to have our program run in eclipse but can use eclipse to make programs that look like regular programs on our desktop. I'm excited to see what we have next to do!
Monday, April 2, 2012
Well I need to work on my Homework problem today so I can't fix it up. I hope I did well on the last homework. I missed the last lab so I hope I did well and do go on the stuff I missed. I think I have an idea how to fix my program though. I'm kind of curious how the final exam is going to be in this class. I think it shouldn't be too hard if I'm doing well in the class right now. I hope I can remember everything I learned from the beginning of the semester. I'll have to look through some old code labs to study and play around with eclipse a bit.

It is finally that day. I have been waiting for GUI for a long time now. I finally get to use the buttons and enter in text and all that good stuff. I'm really excited. I'm almost done with my homework but I just need to fix a few errors I came across. Hopefully I can get them fixed pretty soon and pretty easy. It is amazing how much we have learned in just a few weeks. I'm excited to keep learning more computer science and hope that it is just as fun as it is now.
Tuesday, March 27, 2012
The file class is kind of confusing to me. I think I sort of understand it but not positive. I'm sure after lecture I'll understand because it will be drawn out for me and my brain thinks better that way. I feel good because I am ahead right now but I might be missing lecture today so I hope I don't miss anything to important. I have a good enough grade in the class that I'm not terribly worried and I can always ask for help if I need it. I'm in a basketball tournament and if we win I hope I won't have to miss another class.
Monday, March 26, 2012
Well codeLab was challenging for tomorrow but I did it. Got them all. I'm pretty happy with myself. I had to do it on eclipse so I could actually figure them out. Mainly problem 7 was the only super rough one. I just followed up all the errors that I had and eventually came out to the right answer. The reason I love programming. It is like a giant puzzle. Just need time and patience and you will eventually finish it. I love the problem solving it takes. That's why I'm excited for next year when I continue with math classes and take a discrete math class which I heard is all logical stuff. But the string is just another object. I really like that eclipse tells you all kinds of stuff you can do if you type stringName. it will show all the options you have. That helped with the last homework as well.
Wednesday, March 21, 2012
The lab quiz went great today. I got done even faster than the first quiz. I was happy that I did good as well. I really feel like I know stuff. Not only that but my program only has one more thing to be done. That just came about like nothing. I don't even know how I did it really. A lot of guess and check work. I just get confused on what I'm supposed to be doing with the different parameters coming in and returning different things. What I think I'm going to be getting is not what I get. But I'm at 90 percent right now on the program so I'm not worried at all. I just don't like when I can't get things to work because I know if I have to program for my job I'll have to have them done. But oh well. Hope everyone did good today.
Monday, March 19, 2012
I haven't yet started my program but I hope that it isn't terribly difficult. The plan is to start tonight. I definitely have some ideas on what to do. The static variables seem to be not so difficult. They are harder to follow than regular variables but nothing that bad. I think we have already learned about some of the stuff for tomorrows reading. I learn a lot better by seeing examples being explained then trying to read about it myself. I hope and I continue in this major I will get good examples in class like this semester. I enjoy the class a lot. Not a big hassle class and very fun. I like the logical thinking of it.

I feel very good right now. I did all the codeLab problems very easily. I mean it is pretty simple since we have been doing objects for a while now but usually I have to wait and kinda learn all the specific syntax and that. With this I didn't need that so I feel good. I am a bit nervous for next Wednesday though because of the lab quiz. I did very well on my lab last time but I have sort of forgotten things after break so I'll have to be sure to look and them. I had forgotten most of the things I learned about 2-D arrays that we did today. I think the lab helped set them in my mind at least now. I think I should do decent.
Monday, March 12, 2012
Well back from break and I'm already ready to be done. But I'm excited to learn some more Java! The constructors are very not difficult but are very nice. It cool to be able to make sure you have values in for your object it helps save some time in the overall process. Other then constructors I just hope that I can remember everything I've learned so far. Hopefully it will all come back to me. Let's see, arrays, arraylists, and other objects. Well I can always look back at them. If I knew how to do them before I should be able to do them again. Haha
Thursday, March 1, 2012
Objects were pretty crazy today. I really enjoyed the analogy used today in lecture. It made everything much easier to understand for me. The class being like a recipe for an object where as the object is actually the thing itself. I hope that all our objects aren't always just virtually. I hope some eventually become actual pictures that you can do things too. I think that might come in the GUI lessons towards the end of the year. I'm really happy to be learning how to program! I'm actually in computer science major and I'm happy with my choice so far. I'm curious what exactly I'll be doing.
Wednesday, February 29, 2012
We are on to more objects and writing the classes for them. I think we are getting closer to my goal of making buttons that can be turned on and off and other cool things like that. I hope everything isn't to to difficult because I don't want to not be able to do something that I want. So far I've been doing just fine so I'm not too scared. I'm eager to have lecture tomorrow so I can get a better understanding of classes of objects and such. I hope I don't forget how to do everything I learned when spring break is over!
Monday, February 27, 2012
The lesson for tomorrow seems to be pretty simple. It is just making matrices. It MatLab we pretty much only did matrices since it is matrix laboratory. The only thing I am confused about is syntax which I'm sure will be explained much nicer tomorrow at lecture. I have the understanding of what object is made but confused on how to make it. I'm guessing it won't be super difficult. It will probably be the same as arrays or other objects. I feel that we will be able to do a lot more applications with multidimensional arrays compared to using just one dimension arrays.
Thursday, February 23, 2012
Homework to program is finished! After I figured out out to get a correct difference it sort of just flowed out of me. Tested it will all my tests. It broke once and I got it fixed so hopefully it is going to pass a lot of tests that other students have. I was very surprised that it only took me as long as it did. That makes me feel more confident in my programming. I eager to see what other objects we will be making in the next few weeks. Each one we learn seems to make programming specific tasks a ton easier so I'm hoping for some cool objects.

Brainstorming has begun for homework number two. I had planned to start it this weekend on a car trip but forgot I didn't have Eclipse on my netbook. So I will be doing it this week hoping for the best. I'm glad the arrays are fresh in my mind for this. I think I'll be able to do a decent enough job on this assignment. I'm glad that I only have one exam this week plus all weekend to figure this out. I think that writing out the tests has made me more aware of what I need to put into the program to get out the right answer. I guess we will wait and see. Best of luck to everyone!

Array lists are much much better than regular arrays. I like to be lazy. There is just so much you can do very quickly with the array lists. I like that they move over when you insert values in the middle. I'm excited to see what other kinds of objects we do this semester. I think it would be cool to make like a calculator or something using Java. Where it would show up as an object that you can click the buttons and then the program would do the math. I think that would be really fun to do. I would be very proud of myself if I could make that.
Monday, February 13, 2012
Tomorrows homework has me a bit confused. I think once I see how it works I'll pick it up but until then I'm not fully grasping it. I did good on my lab quiz. I thought overall it went well. It was a good mix of the things we have learned. Some stumped me for a bit but just trying and trying I got them to work. I think the main thing you need with programming is patience. This is something I lack sometimes. I found if I do some stuff for a while and am not getting it I can go away from it and come back and fix it easier that I would have been able to.

Array/Methods
The arrays don't seem to terrible. MatLab is all about matrices so we really got those worked into our brains. I like arrays for the fact of making life easier. Who would want to write a bunch of the same code to do the same thing a lot of times. With arrays all you do it just type in the values you want. I'm sure there is going to be some difficult things with arrays just like everything but for the basic idea of them they don't seem to hard. Methods turned out to be not to difficult at all which was nice. With the lectures I feel like I have a good understanding of them.

First Homework
So I almost have my homework getting the right answer. I decided I'd write out the code first and it seemed to work well. I just typed stuff that I had written down and it all came together nicely. I didn't think my peak and valley would work but my slope would. It turned out to be the opposite my slope isn't getting the right values but my peaks and valleys are. I think just sitting down and thinking about it a little more I will be able to get it. I just need to start over on my thinking. Hopefully I can figure it out tonight and then I can submit it tomorrow!

Methods
The methods section is not terribly difficult. It really helps to make things easier to read and clearer. You just have to be able to follow what is going on. It makes repetition of things simpler. I know that I am always looking for the quickest way to get something done and with the methods it is easy to do that. There are a few things I am not positive on but I feel as though with lecture tomorrow I'll be able to get it better. So far I have been understand things much better after lecture than I am before which probably makes sense.

The loops can really get me sometimes. I just need to keep practicing and I'll get better. I've started to look at my homework and I have some stuff going but I still need some tweeks. Computer programming is very rewarding to me. I love the challenge of it. I like when I have to try a few times before I can get something to work out. It is why I like math too. I get frustrated after a bit but I'll just come back to it later on in the day and if it is really still getting me I can always get help. I curious to see how these next few weeks with arrays and methods go. I have heard from some people they can be difficult. I'm ready to see for myself.
Monday, January 23, 2012
Loops are tricky to me sometimes. I know how they work and how to write them out I just get confused when I need to make a program with them sometimes. The last CodeLab problem really is giving me some trouble. I think that by using them more and more I will eventually get the hang of them better. I'll have to see if I can wrap my mind around them a little better after lecture. I seemed to get stuff a bit better after it has been taught to me. I think the loops definitely help in making programs that need things to be repeated. Saves me the time it would take to type it all up.

Class on Thursday was helpful for understanding the switches. I was confused about them but now I understand them. The if else statements remind me a lot of Matlab. The are used exactly the same way just typed in a tad different. The printf was the same too. It was the only way to print out that I new in Matlab. It makes me like the regular print and how you can just type in the variable name to get that value to show. The Matlab we did in my Engineering class last semester was very helpful so far in this class. It's just learning the different names of things but the concepts are similar. I like that because I was afraid I wasn't going to know how to do anything. I am enjoying doing Java so far!
Wednesday, January 18, 2012
The second lab went well. It was really cool to have you and your partners' program worked. It was frustrating sometimes, though, when the two of you couldn't figure out what was wrong. Our TA helped us through those times. All together the process of making a simple program is fun. I enjoy making things. I like when you finish up a project and the successful feeling you get inside. I feel like the little bit of MatLab I learned last semester helped me so far with learning the basics. I'm trying to remember all the basic functions that are in the chapters because I feel that this class builds off of the things I will be learning in the first few chapters.

First One
Well, I successfully completed my homework for tomorrow already and I wasn't to confused. CS1121 seems like it will be a fun class. I enjoyed the first lecture last week. It is all very interesting to me. I am not understanding a the string literal that much but I got my CodeLab codes to work and it always feels pretty successful to me. I hope that the rest of this class is just as entertaining as the first two days. For now I think I'm doing alright. I already liked computers before this class but mainly I only know about the hardware of the computer so it is nice to learn more about the software of computers.
